A Joyful Moment in Our Community’s Literacy “Village”

Catch Up & Read was recently featured in People Newspapers in a thoughtful story by author and speech-language pathologist Lavelle Carlson, titled “Something Unexpected and Wonderful Happened at a Big Dallas Mall.”

During a visit to Galleria Dallas, Lavelle came across a joyful scene—children and caregivers gathered for storytime led by NBC DFW’s Cleo Greene. What began as a spontaneous moment of reading together became a reflection on how communities can rally around literacy.

In her piece, Lavelle shares how Catch Up & Read supports that vision through teacher training, student tutoring, and family engagement across Dallas. She describes the effort as a “village” where teachers, tutors, and caregivers all play a part in helping children gain confidence and skill as readers.

Catch Up & Read is honored by this kind mention and grateful for the spotlight on the joy and purpose behind its mission.
